The situation.
Every year, over 931 million tons of food are thrown away worldwide (source: UNEP Food Waste Index Report, 2021). In addition, organic waste disposal is not implemented properly, especially in cities, and organic waste often ends up in the residual waste bin. Incorrectly disposed of organic waste poses a real climate problem, because the organic waste can continue to rot and ferment in landfills, causing methane gas emissions. A gas that is many times more harmful to the climate than CO2.
On the other hand, the disposal of organic waste in landfills or incineration plants removes valuable minerals and nutrients from the nutrient cycle. In order to maintain the fertility of plant soils, these must then be treated with fertilizers from other sources, often artificial ones or peat. Otherwise, the soil will degrade or become deserted.
We at soilkind are convinced that organic waste has much more potential! That's why we put our heads together to develop a hygienic, everyday and clean composting system for your home.
Our mission.
Make compost, not waste! We want to promote appreciation for organic waste in society and its relevance for a healthy ecosystem. It all started with the question: What if we didn't just dispose of it - but got more and thus added value out of the organic waste resource? Can we combine the composting process, as perfect as it occurs in nature, with high-tech and bring it into our own four walls?
When we founded soilkind in 2017, we were sure: Yes, it can be done! And so, after years of testing and with a lot of passion, we developed a smart composter that does exactly what nature does in a process that takes months: converting organic waste into real compost.
But simply drying and shredding organic waste is not enough. We wanted to go one step further... and produce proven nutrient-rich compost. Today we can meet this requirement with the patented two-chamber system and a fully automatic high-tech composter that automatically creates ideal composting conditions.
Our impact.
Good from the ground up: With the soilkind composter, we enable everyone who likes to cook a lot to do something good for the earth. And in the truest sense of the word: soilkind compost gives the soil back important nutrients that it needs for regeneration.
This closes the nutrient cycle. Essential minerals are returned to the soil through your plants or vegetable beds - and even the water contained in the food remains in the cycle.
Our vision.
Our vision is to inspire people all over the world about the potential of organic waste. Because we are convinced that the environmentally friendly recycling of organic waste is a crucial factor for a healthy ecosystem - and that this great resource should not end up in the form of food in landfills or in waste-to-energy plants.
With the soilkind composter, dealing with kitchen waste is no longer an annoying everyday problem, but more convenient, odor-free and hygienic than ever before.

The mix makes it possible: At soilkind in Stuttgart, a wide range of experts work together... from biology, technology, materials science, engineering and electronics. We are united by our love of nature and our enthusiasm for smart, meaningful and enriching solutions in the home.
Small hint.
When we started, our kitchen composter was still called KALEA. Our product, our brand and our mission have grown - and so has our name. We have been soilkind since December 2022.
